SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team earned its second victory of the weekend with a 66-40 win over Oregon State on Sunday afternoon.
Iwalani Rodrigues led Utah with 18 points while Michelle Plouffe had her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Danielle Rodriguez had a career high nine rebounds and tied her career best with six assists, while Chelsea Bridgewater scored a career-best eight points.
"Unbelievable team win tonight," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "Nine of our players scored, and increasing our depth is something that we've been working at. We were exceptional at the defensive end of the floor. Our guards did a great job keeping them out of the paint. And while they're not the fastest team we play, they are persistent about going to the basket. The best we have been defensively for quite some time. I'm really proud of our team."
The Utes (13-10, 4-8 Pac-12) took a 12-0 lead through the first 9:30 of the game before Oregon State (9-15, 3-9 Pac-12) scored its first points. With Utah leading by 11 points, 19-8 with 5:30 left in the first half, the Beavers rallied for six-straight points to cut the lead to five, 19-14 with four minutes left in the half. The Utes led by six points entering the final minute of the first half before ending the half on a 7-0 run to hold a 13-point halftime lead, 34-12. Rodriguez nailed a three with five seconds left. The Utes shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half, highlighted by five three's. Rodrigues had 13 first-half points.
Utah led by as many as 29 points in the second half, shooting 48.1 percent in the contest. Oregon State had scored just nine second-half points through the first 16 minutes of the half.
