Plouffe's 24 points led all scorers

STANFORD, Calif. - The Utah women's basketball team couldn't overcome a hot start by Stanford, falling 65-44 to the sixth-ranked Cardinal on Friday evening.
Michelle Plouffe led Utah with 24 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-double of the year and her third 20-point game of the season. Paige Crozon had a strong game with 10 points and eight rebounds.
"Really proud of our team's effort," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "We never gave in. Stanford is an incredibly talented and well-coached basketball team. We gave them a head start and never caught back up, but our players did a great job of competing and hanging in there. I'm proud of that."
The Utes shot a season-low 25-percent in the contest.
Taryn Wicijowski left the game midway through the first half with a knee injury.
Stanford took a quick 7-0 lead and increased its lead to 14 points, 19-5, with nine minutes left in the first half. The Cardinal led by 16 points at halftime, 35-19. Plouffe had 12 points and six rebounds in the first half for Utah.
Stanford led by as many as 23 points in the second half.
Rita Sitivi made her first appearance of the season.
Utah returns to the court on Sunday, Jan. 27, against California at 2:00 p.m. PT.
