Senior Roeland Brateanu and sophomore Tomasz Grzyb won in the doubles consolation of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.

TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Utah men's tennis team concluded three days of the Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational. The players that competed include senior Roeland Brateanu and sophomore Tomasz Grzyb.
The Utes fell short in the singles main draw when Brateanu lost to Nick Hagerty of ASU (6-1, 6-2) and Grzyb was defeated by Stjepan Beg of NMSU (7-5,7-6(2)).
In the singles consolation draw, Brateanu defeated Jon Stott of ASU (6-2,1-6,11-9) and Grzyb downed Matt Ozurovich of SD (6-4,6-4) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals Tomasz Grzyb defeated Danilo Zivanovic of NMSU (6-2,2-6,7-6(2)) but Brateanu fell to Chris Stewart of ASU (6-3,7-6(5)). In the finals, Grzyb lost to Stewart in three matches (6-7(5), 7-6(4), 6-3).
In doubles play, Brateanu and Grzyb fell to Pelva/Lane of AUB (8-5) in the main draw. Later in the consolation draw, Brateanu/Grzyb defeated Stott/Hagerty of ASU (8-6) and downed Plotnik/Ozurovich of USD (8-3).
