LAS VEGAS - The University of Utah men's tennis team completed the third day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championship tournament Friday at the Darling Tennis Center.
In doubles play, junior Devin Lane and sophomore Slim Hamza defeated ninth-seeded Fabio Biasion and Max Krammer of Denver, 8-1, in the round of 16. The duo will take on BYU's ninth-seeded Travis Fillmore and Francis Sargeant Saturday at 12 p.m., in the quarterfinals. Also in the round of 16, Mamedov and Medinilla fell to third-seeded New Mexico's Conor Berg and Jadon Phillips, 8-4.
In the singles round of 16, No. 48 third-seeded senior Dmytro Mamedov downed Shaun Waters of Northern Arizona, 6-2, 6-4, then lost to fifth-seeded Andy Bettles (BSU) 6-1, 6-7, 6-4, in the quaterfinals.
In singles consolation play, Hamza netted two consecutive victories to advance to the quaterfinal round. Hamza routed Utah State's Matt Sweet, 6-4, 6-0, then bested Jake Knox of Idaho, 6-3, 6-1. Hamza will battle 25th-seeded Du Toit Saturday at 9 a.m., in the quarterfinal round.
In the third round of singles consolation play, Tasevac downed Ryan Andrada of Nevada Reno, 7-6, 6-1. He then dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Du Toit in the fourth round. Redshirt freshman Justin Archer fell to New Mexico's Simon Hegelund, 6-1, 7-6, in the third round.
