COSTA MESA, Calif. - Sophomore Slim Hamza advanced to the fourth and final round of qualifying play this weekend at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center. Fellow Utes Devin Lane and Rafael Davidian netted victories in the second round of qualifying play before falling in their third round matches.
Hamza downed Ziad Sultan, 6-1, 6-2, then went on to top J.C. Aragone 6-3, 6-4. He next faces Leo Rosenberg in the fourth round of qualifying play. In the second round of play, junior Lane defeated Calum Puttergill, 6-4, 6-0 before dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Clay Thompson. Freshman Davidian captured a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the second round, but could not advance in the third round, falling to Rosenberg, 6-4, 6-4.
Hamza returns Monday, Sept. 17, for the fourth and final round of qualifying play at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
