SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The University of Utah men's tennis team edged out a close win against the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday. The Utes celebrated their 4-3 win over the conference rivals after the decision making win by Ryan Scott at No. 6 singles. This win over New Mexico tallies the No. 56 Utes' conference record to 2-4 with an overall record of 14-9.
After struggling in doubles the day before against TCU, the Utes had a come back to win the doubles point today. Duo Nick Coutts and Zach Ganger at No. 1 and Dan Mascall and Wes Hancock at the No. 3 spot, registered wins to aquire the point for the Utes. In singles play the Utes and Lobos were neck-and-neck up to the very end. After three losses in singles, the Utes came back with big wins by Zach Ganger, Jason Yap and Ryan Scott.
Ganger struggled during his first set, but came back for a glorious 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 win over Max Jones from the Lobos' team. Yap swung away New Mexico's Eric Conklin at the No. 5 singles spot to earn a well deserved 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 victory. Ending the day with a bang for Utah was Ryan Scott with the winning decision at No. 6 singles. Scott held strong through three rounds for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Chandler Brass of New Mexico.
