LAS VEGAS - The University of Utah men's tennis team opened its Mountain West Conference season with a 6-0 loss to UNLV on Saturday, April 3 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Utes proved no match for the Rebels in singles, as they lost at all six positions. Competing at the No.1, senior Roeland Brateanu fell after three hard sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-4) to No. 77 Henner Nehles. Sophomore Tomasz Gryzb lost in straight set to Aviram Salomon at the No. 2. It took UNLV's Romain Massaro three sets to dispatch Utah freshman Miron Mann (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) at the No. 3 spot. At the No.4, Nick Coutts came up short in a close match against Joel Kielbowicz (6-3, 6-4). Freshman Jason Yap, playing at the No. 5, fared well but lost (6-3, 2-6, 6-0)to David DiMartino. Ryan Scott fought hard at the No. 6 but picked up a loss after three sets to Marko Blagojevic (6-7, 6-3, 6-1).
