SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team (65) dropped a 5-1 decision to the University of San Diego (75) on Wednesday.
The teams headed straight into doubles play to begin the competition. First to finish was Othman Zerouali-Ouariti at the No. 4 slot. Facing Ryo Sekiguchi from San Diego, the Ute was defeated 6-2, 6-0. Timmy Allin finished up next, playing at the No. 6 slot. Matt Ozurovich stepped in from San Diego to take the match 6-1, 7-5 over the Ute.
Jason Smits faced Charl Wolmarans at the No. 5 slot for a 6-1, 7-6 victory for the Utes. At the No. 2 slot, Miron Mann faced Chris Coetzee. The Ute tried to keep up with Coetzee, but couldn't hold him back. Mann was defeated 7-6, 6-2.
The last two on the courts to face San Diego were Zach Ganger and Wes Hancock. No. 51 Ganger faced No. 47 Thomas Liversage at the No. 1 slot. Ganger took the first set 7-5, but couldn't seal the deal in the end. Liversage defeated the Ute 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Finishing up the overall match was Hancock at the No. 3 slot. Jonas Mouly stepped in to defeat the Ute 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, to make the final score of the match 5-1 in San Diego's favor.
