RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team defeated the University of California Riverside on Saturday for a 5-2 win.
The Utes swept the Highlanders in doubles play at every position. At the No. 1 slot, No. 43 Zach Ganger and Miron Mann overtook Mark Conteras and Joe Cartledge of Riverside 8-3. Wes Hancock and Timmy Allin teamed up at the No. 3 slot against pedraum Rouhafza and Hakop Tadevosian. The Ute duo smashed an 8-3 win over the Highlanders. Finishing up at the No. 2 slot, Othman Zerouali-Ouariti and Jason Smits faced Bobby Tam and Jordan Peana for a 8-6 victory.
The Utes had a great day in singles play as well. All of the veterans from the Utes won their matches on Saturday, along with a win from freshman Timmy Allin. No. 55 Zach Ganger played a straight 6-2, 6-2 win over Mark Contreras from Riverside at the No. 1 slot. Miron Mann stepped in at the No. 2 slot to face Joe Carledge. The Ute overcame the Highlander 6-3, 6-2 to give Utah a 3-0 advantage.
Wes Hancock battled Gorjan Kovacevic from the Highlanders at the No. 3 slot. The sophomore slammed a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kovacevic. Finishing up the Utes' wins, was freshman Timmy Allin. The Ute stepped in at the No. 6 slot against Jordan Peana from Riverside. Allin defeated Peana 6-2, 6-3.
