SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team finished out their home schedule on Friday against the Montana State-Bozeman Bobcats for a 6-1 victory.
Starting off the night in doubles play, Wes Hancock and Timmy Allin teamed up at the No. 2 slot for a perfect 8-0 victory over Zach Buenger and Anton Leonenko from the Bobcats. The other win in doubles came from Amit Maharaj and Ryan Schlachter at the No. 3 slot. The Ute duo defeated David Kovas and Myles Perkins 9-7 to give Utah the doubles point.
The Utes had an outstanding night in singles play on Friday. Zach Ganger (55) led the Utes at the No. 1 slot. Facing Jakub Dybala from the Bobcats, Ganger hit a straight 6-4, 6-4 win over Dybala. Playing at the No. 5 slot, Allin faced David Kovas for a 6-0, 6-1 win to give the Utes a 3-0 advantage.
Maharaj represented the Utes at the No. 6 slot against Igar Vuckovic of Montana State. The Ute played for a straight-set victory 6-1, 6-1 over the Bobcat. Jason Smits finished up next at the No. 4 slot. Zach Buenger stepped in to challenge the Ute, but was shut down 7-5, 6-3 by Smits.
The last two Utah players on the court were Hancock and Miron Mann battling hard against their opponents. Hancock faced Anton Leonenko from the Bobcats at the No. 3 slot for a 7-6, 6-4 victory. Ending the night at the No. 2 slot, Mann faced Kyle McDonald from Montana State. McDonald took the first set 6-4, but was unable to follow through in the second set where Mann took it 7-6. The two battled hard in the tie-breaker, but McDonald pulled ahead in the end and took the match 6-4, 4-7, 11-9.
