Utah Golf Takes Fifth On Final Day of Kauai Invite

Kauai, Hawaii- The University of Utah golf team completed the third round of the 2008 Kauai Invitational Wednesday in fifth-place with a score of 852 strokes at 12-under-par.

Senior Chance Cota (San Diego, Calif.) lead the Utes through the third round with a final combined score of 205 strokes (69, 67, 69) at 11-under-par. Cota tied for fourth-place with Alex Ching of San Diego.

Kaleb Mahanes (Erie, Colo.) ended the invite tied for 15-place shooting 72 in the third round for a final score of 212 (74, 66, 72) at four-under-par. Sophomore Derek Adams (Lake Havasu, Ariz.) shot a total score of 218 strokes tied for 39th-place at two-over-par.

Sophomore Chase Hite (Tuscon, Ariz.) had a third round score of 75 strokes for a total of 221 (75, 71, 75) at five-over-par. Jeff Kitches (Salt Lake City) ended the final day tied for 57th-place with a score of 224 strokes (79, 74, 71) at eight-over-par.

The University of San Diego claimed first place in the team standings with a score of 825 strokes at 39-under-par.

The Utes have concluded their fall schedule and will be back in action on March 16, 2009 at the San Diego State Barona Cup in San Diego, Calif.
