PARK CITY, Utah - Utah golf finished in fourth place after the third and final round of the Utah Invitational this afternoon at the Jeremy Ranch Golf Course.
“We’re disappointed we didn’t win our home event despite good play from our guys,” head coach Randall McCracken said. “We were in position to win today but unfortunately, could not get the scores necessary to get it done. Boise State was extremely good today and credit to them for winning the tournament.”
Boise State, who was tied with Utah in fourth place heading into the final round, wound up capturing the tournament by 10 strokes over Utah State, the leaders heading into today, and UTEP.
Jonathon Thomas, who was tied for the individual lead entering today, finished fifth with a score of two-under for the tournament. Seokwon Jeon of Utah State and Ty Travis of Boise State went to a two-hole tiebreaker with Jeon capturing the title.
Daniel Engle had Utah’s lowest score in the third round, shooting two-under with birdies on 16 and 18. He finished in a tie for 11th overall along with fellow Ute Benjamin Bankhead. Both players finished at two-over for the tournament.
Jack Maerki finished with five birdies on the day, tops among the Utes, and finished with his best round of the tournament. Myles Sullivan had three birdies and finished one-over on the day playing as an individual.
Next up for the Utes is the Price's Give'em 5 Invitational hosted by the University of Texas-El Paso at Butterfield Trail Golf Club, October 25-26.
