LAYTON, Utah - The University of Utah men's golf team ended the first day of the Utah/Weber State Purple and Red Invitational in seventh place. The Utes shot a score of 291 in the first and second rounds for a total of 582.

Two Utah players remain within the top 20. Junior Chase Hite is tied for 14th-place with a score of 143 (71, 72), one-under-par, and freshman Camden Nicholson is tied for 20th-place with a score of 144 (75, 69).

Kaleb Mahanes ended the day with a two round total of 147 (73, 74), three-over-par. Mike Branca shot a first round of 73 and a second round of 76 for a total of 149, five-over-par.

Rounding out the Utah lineup is Derek Adams with a mark of 150 (74, 76), six-over-par.

Jeff Kitches and Joe Webber are playing in the tournament as individuals. Kitches shot a score of 147, and Webber finished the day with a mark of 151.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock is in first place with a score of 562. In the player standings, Jake Johnson of Sacramento State is in first place with a first round of 67 and a second round of 69.

Utah will continue with the final 18 holes tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m.
