Erie, Colo. - The University of Utah golf team sits in 13th after two rounds at the Mark Simpson Invitational with a team score of 586 (287-299) at the Colorado National Golf Club. The Utes were tied for third after the first round as three Utes shot opening rounds of one-under par 71.
Monday's opening round was highlighted by Utah's first hole-in-one of the season as junior Ben Bankhead aced the par-3 fifth hole, bouncing back impressively from a bogey on the previous hole. Bankhead currently stands tied for 85th with a 36-hole total of 149 (74-75).
Sophomore Gentry Hicks leads the way for Utah, tying for 29th in the individual standings with a two-round 145 (71-74). Redshirt junior Casey Halliday follows closely with a 146 (71-75), tied for 37th. Junior Daniel Engle is tied for 43rd with a 147 (71-76) and sophomore Brandon Kida rounds out the Utes' presence on the leaderboard with a score of 151 (76-75), tied for 66th.
The Utes begin the final round of the tournament on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. MT.
