Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Utah men's golf team completed the first day of the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships Thursday in Tucson at the OMNI Tucson National Golf Club. The Utes are tied for fifth place with a score of 291 after the first round of 18 holes.

Freshman Kaleb Mahanes leads the Utes with a first-round score of 72, at one-over-par. Mahanes is tied for 12th place along with teammates sophomore Derek Adams and sophomore Chase Hite.

Senior Chance Cota finished the first 18 holes tied in 34th-place shooting a score of 75, at four-over-par. Sophomore Mike Branca rounds out the Utah lineup with a score of 83 at 12-over-par.

TCU currently sits in first place with a score of 276, at eight-under-par. Tom Hoge of TCU leads in the individual standings with a score of 67 at four-under-par.
