Ute Golfers Seventh After Day One at Ron Moore Invitational

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The University of Utah men's golf team opened play at the Ron Moore Invitational Friday. The event is hosted by Denver University in Goodyear, Ariz.

After the first day of competition, the Utes are just eight strokes off the lead and tied for seventh place in the 16-team event. Utah put together a round one total of 285 strokes, tying with MWC rival Colorado State. The University of San Diego is currently in the lead, turning in a score of 277 Friday.

Individually, Utah was paced by Chance Cota in the first round. Cota carded a 68 Friday, finishing strong with a 33 on the back nine. Cota's four-under round was good enough to tie him for fifth place after the first round.

Steve Broker also broke par Friday, carding a 71 to sit in a tie for 23rd. Dustin Pimm was even on the day, shooting a 72. Nic Larson was two-over at 74. Chris Gresh had a rough go on the back nine and turned in a 77 in Friday's first round.

Play continues Saturday and Sunday.
