SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of Utah golf team completed the first day of the 2009 Collegiate Barona Cup on Monday. The Utes ended the day in 10th place at 48-over-par and a final score of 768 (390, 379).
Kaleb Mahanes leads the Utes after shooting a first-round score of 73 and a second round of 77 tied for 42nd place. Chance Cota finished the first round with a score of 79 and finished the second round with a score of 72 for a total of 150, six-over-par. Cota is currently tied for 46th place in the field.
In 50th place, Derek Adams shot a 79 in the first round and a 74 in the second round to finish the day at nine-over-par. Jeff Kitches is tied for 57th place at 14-over-par with a combined two-round total of 158 (81, 77).
Freshman Joe Webber ended the first day with a score of 159 (78, 81) and is tied for 59th place at 15-over-par. Finishing up the Utah lineup was Mike Branca in 63rd place with a combined score of 163 (84, 79).
San Diego State sits in first place on the team leader board with a score of 697, 23-under-par. Matt Hoffenberg of the Aztecs is tied in first place with Dustin Morris of Colorado State and Blake Trimble of San Diego at 137, seven-under-par.
The tournament will finish tomorrow with the third round, beginning at 7:15 a.m.
