Utah vs. Boise State Game Notes
Utah now has a 2-1 Las Vegas Bowl record with wins over Fresno State in 1999 and USC in 2001. Utah is now 1-1 against Western Athletic Conference schools in bowl games, defeating Fresno State in the 1999 Las Vegas Bowl.
Utah's bowl win streak ends at nine games (1999, 2001, 2003-2009). The nine straight wins tied for the second-longest bowl win streak of all time with USC, which won nine straight spanning from 1923-45. Florida State holds the record with 11 consecutive bowl wins (1985-96).
The Utes are now 12-4 all-time in bowl games.
Kyle Whittingham is 6-1 overall in bowl games as Utah's head or co-head coach.
Quarterback Terrance Cain is 9-2 as Utah's starter, including a 2-1 record this year with wins over UNLV and New Mexico.
The Utes forced four turnovers in the game, recovering three fumbles and coming up with an interception.
Chaz Walker had a team-high 10 tackles and finished the season with 113. He also totaled 59 return yards in the game. He came up with his second interception of the season, and third of his career, in the first quarter that he returned for 24 yards.
Brandon Burton blocked a 32-yard Boise State field goal attempt late in the third quarter that Walker returned 35 yards. Walker also forced a fumble to stall a Bronco drive early in the second quarter.
Shaky Smithson had three receptions for 56 yards with a long of 23. He also had a career-high 32 rush yards, including a season-long 20-yard rush in the first quarter.
Eddie Wide rushed for 34 yards and finishes his career 10th in school history with 2,013 yards.
Joe Phillips went 1-for-3 in field goals, missing two attempts in a game for the first time in his career. Phillips hit a 44-yard attempt at the end of the first quarter, which was the fourth-longest field goal in Las Vegas Bowl history. He was 13-of-17 this season and 33-of-39 in his career. Phillips was 10-of-15 from 40 yards and out for his career and 5-of-9 this season.
Reggie Dunn had a 40-yard kickoff return to start the second half. He made two returns for 57 yards in the contest.
