SALT LAKE CITY
A second junior college player has signed a National Letter of Intent with Utah in Koliniasi Leota, a 6-4, 255-pound defensive end out of Mount San Antonio College. Leota joins running back Kelvin York, a 5-11, 235-pound running back out of Fullerton College. Both players plan to enroll at the U. in the spring semester and will be juniors next fall. Leota has a redshirt year available.
A first-team all-SFCA defensive lineman, Leota totaled 41 tackles, including 13.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks, in 2011. He also intercepted two passes, broke up two passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble as a sophomore.
Mt. SAC won the 2010 national junior college championship and was the runner-up in 2011. Leota also played for two conference championship teams at Mt. SAC, which won the 2010 state title as well. He is married (Salote) with three children.
York, from Prairieville, La., was an all-conference player, the MVP of the 2010 Empire Bowl and the 2010 Key to the County game vs. Santa Ana College before missing most of the 2011 season due to injury. He rushed for 1,478 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2010, averaging 130.5 yards per game and 6.3 yards per carry.
Prior to junior college, York was all-state, all-district and Parish MVP for Dutchtown High School in Geismar, La. As a senior, he rushed for over 1,400 yards even while sharing time with Eddie Lacy, currently a sophomore at Alabama, where he is the Tide's second-leading rusher.
