Eric Weddle has been honored on seven different All-America teams.
Weddle is one of just eight Utes ever to make an Associated Press All-America team, and the first since 2002, when offensive lineman Jordan Gross earned consensus All-America honors. He is Utah's first defensive A.P. All-American since Luther Elliss achieved consensus All-America status in 1994.
Utah's other A.P. All-Americans were second-team quarterback Lee Grosscup (1957), second-team offensive lineman Carlton Walker (1984), third-team running back Earl Pomeroy (1929), third-team defensive lineman Steve Clark (1981) and third-team offensive lineman Anthony Brown (1994).
In addition to the AP honors, Weddle was honored as a first-team All-America selection by SportingNews.com Tuesday as well.
He is Utah's first defensive first-team All-American since Luther Elliss in 1994.
First-team awards for Weddle include: American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), SportingNews.com, SportsIllustrated.com, CBSsportsline.com and rivals.com. He has won second-team recognition from the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF).
