Sports Illustrated has ranked the Utah football team No. 19 in its College Football Preview Issue, which hits the newsstands on Aug. 12. SI ranks all 117 Division IA football teams.
It marks the second time in school history that the Utes have received a preseason top 25 ranking by Sports Illustrated. In 1994, the magazine ranked Utah No. 20 in its preview issue. Utah went on to a 10-2 season, a bowl victory over Arizona and a top 10 finish (No. 8 Coaches, No. 10 Associated Press).
The latest SI ranking comes on the heels of Utah's first-ever preseason top 25 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll, released on July 30. Utah was ranked No. 21 in it-the same position the Utes held at the end of the 2003 season in both the Coaches and Associated Press polls.
