SALT LAKE CITY - CollegeFootballNews.com named nine Utah football players to its Preseason All-Mountain West Conference teams, including four players on its list of the top-30 MWC players.
Quarterback Brian Johnson earned Offensive Player of the Year honors and was rated as the second-best overall player in the conference. Joining Johnson on the first-team offense were offensive linemen Jason Boone and Robert Conley, as well as kick returner Brice McCain. Boone was rated at the 18th-best overall player. The first-team defense consisted of linebacker Joe Jiannoni, who ranked as 15th best player in the conference.
Place kicker and punter Louie Sakoda earned spots on both the second-team offense and defense for his dual role, and was rated 14th overall. Defensive lineman Martail Burnett, defensive back Steve Tate and punt returner Marquis Wilson rounded out the second-team defense.
Utah begins it season on Thursday, Aug. 30, against Oregon State.
