John White is a candidate for the Doak Walker Award, given to the top college running back.

Utah senior running back John White was announced as a candidate for the 2012 Doak Walker Award today. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back. Earlier, White was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which honors the outstanding college player.
White finished second in the Pac-12 and 11th in the nation in rushing (116.8 yards per game) a year ago as a junior, breaking a 29-year-old school record by rushing for 1,519 yards. White led the conference and ranked third in the nation in carries (316). His eight 100-yard games was tied for second in the Pac-12 and he had five of the top 20 rushing games in the conference. He was named second-team all-Pac-12, honorable mention SI.com All-American and the Sun Bowl MVP.
White has been chosen as a 2012 preseason first-team all-Pac-12 running back by both Phil Steele and Blue Ribbon.
