SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah senior defensive back Eric Weddle has been named to two more preseason All-America teams, raising his total to four. Weddle, already a first-team preseason All-American by The Sporting News and Athlon Sports, has made the honorable mention team in Street & Smith's College Football 2006 Yearbook, which hit the newsstands on June 27. Rivals.com announced on June 29 that Weddle is a member of its preseason All-America second-team defense.
Street & Smith's also touted Ute sophomore Brent Casteel as an honorable mention All-America receiver. Making the Street & Smith's preseason all-Mountain West Conference team were Weddle, offensive lineman Tavo Tupola, wide receiver Brian Hernandez and defensive back Casey Evans.
The Street & Smith's and Rivals.com citations are the latest in a long line for Weddle. The reigning MWC Defensive Player of the Year has also made three national "watch lists" to date: the Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski awards, which both honor the nation's Outstanding Defensive Player; and the Ronnie Lott Trophy, which recognizes the nation's top defensive player who also contributes to his community in a positive way.
