SALT LAKE CITY - Athlon Sports has ranked Utah 23rd in its preseason Top 25 college football poll. Athlon's annual college football magazine will hit newsstands on June 5. The Western regional edition cover will feature senior defensive back Eric Weddle.
Athlon Sports predicts Utah to finish second in the Mountain West Conference. Weddle is named a first team All-American and first team all-MWC. Safety Casey Evans and offensive lineman Tavo Tupola are named first team all-MWC. Brent Casteel is also named first team all-conference as a kick returner and second team all-MWC as a wide receiver.
Quarterback Brett Ratliff and defensive lineman Kelly Talavou are named second team all-MWC. Defensive lineman Martail Burnett is named third team all-MWC. Athlon ranked Utah's recruiting class second-beat in the Mountain West and defensive tackle Joe Failili is rated the No. 3 recruit in the MWC.
