PRIOR TO UTAH: Played in all 26 games in two seasons at Michigan State (2008 and 2009) ... participated in the 2009 Alamo Bowl and the 2010 Capitol One Bowl (both January games) ... played primarily on special teams as a freshman in 2008, while backing up at linebacker, and recorded nine tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery ... named Spartan Special Teams Player of the Week vs. Northwestern after forcing a fumble on a kickoff and recovering the ball on the Wildcat 25-yard line ... as a sophomore defensive end in 2009, he recorded eight tackles, including 1.5 for a loss (9 yards), and two pass break-ups ... 7-yard sack with two tackles against Montana State ... played his high school ball in Ohio for Piqua High School, where he was a three-year starter ... Associated Press Division II first-team all-state and AP Southwest first-team all-district as a senior (second-team all-state his junior year) ... 2007 AP Southwest Ohio and conference Defensive Player of the Year ... tallied 117 tackles as a senior, with 28 resulting in losses including six sacks ... also intercepted three passes ... had 30 receptions for 540 yards (18.0 avg.) and six touchdowns ... team captain ...
