SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team (3-0) will hit the road for the first time this season Wednesday as the Runnin' Utes head to Logan, Utah, to face Utah State (2-1) at 7:05 p.m. MT. The game will be televised live on CW30 in Salt Lake City.
Utah is looking to remain undefeated and improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The Utes are fresh off a 15-point victory against last year's Big Sky Conference regular-season champion Weber State, 90-75. The Utes were led by junior wing Will Clyburn, who logged career and team highs of 27 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Josh Watkins also poured in 16 points, while senior forward Jay Watkins added 12.
For the year, Clyburn is leading the Utes in scoring and rebounding at 20.7 points and 7.3 boards per contest. Josh Watkins tops the squad in assists at 5.0 per game, while junior center David Foster leads the team and the MWC in blocks at 3.7 per outing.
Utah State enters the game after defeating Southern Utah on the road, 66-53. USU had two players in double figures as Brian Green (19) and Tai Wesley (12) led the Aggies in scoring, while Brady Jardine tied for the game high rebounds with seven. Utah State held SUU to 36.1% shooting for the game (13-of-36) and out-rebounded the Thunderbirds, 26-25.
In the last meeting between these two teams, Utah captured a 68-67 victory in Salt Lake City. Their last meeting in Logan resulted in a 66-64 thriller as Utah State won amid some controversy with the game clock.
Utah leads the all-time series between the two schools, 130-92, including a 50-59 record on Utah State's home floor.
Utah head coach Jim Boylen, now in his fourth year at the helm for the Utes, owns a 59-42 (.584) record. Utah State is coached by Stew Morrill, now in his 13th year, who now holds a 296-100 (.747) mark.
