SALT LAKE CITY - Utah basketball fans were treated to a "Night with the Runnin' Utes" Wednesday as the 2012-13 squad played a full-speed scrimmage with referees at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Nearly 1,200 people were in attendance as senior guard Cedric Martin, junior forward Renan Lenz and freshman forward Jordan Loveridge each poured in 17 points to lead all scorers.
"I thought for the first time playing in front of the public we would be more tired but it seemed like our conditioning was really solid," said head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "I thought we were clicking pretty well and executing. Dallin [Bachynski] and [Jordan] had a good night as bigs and [Glen] Dean ran the team I was coaching pretty well. I thought it was pretty solid out there and we enjoyed the evening."
Wearing white and black practice gear for what started as a 20-minute game, the Utes battled through four overtimes before the white team claimed a 65-62 victory.
Joining the three leading scorers in double digits were freshman guard Justin Seymour (16), junior guard Glen Dean (15), sophomore center Dallin Bachynski (14) and senior center Jason Washburn (13). Bachynski was also the game's top rebounder and shot-blocker with nine boards and three rejections. Dean led the game with six assists. Loveridge and freshman guard Brandon Taylor each added five rebounds, while junior guard Jarred DuBois dished out five assists.
The Utes tip off the 2012-13 schedule with an exhibition game against Simon Fraser on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Huntsman Center. Utah will then host its regular-season opener against Willamette on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. That game will also be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
