Chris Jones, who played at Utah and has been on the Ute basketball staff for six years overall, has been an assistant coach since the 2006-07 season. Jones joined the Utah staff for his second stint in 2004-05 as the director of basketball operations. He recruits heavily for the Runnin' Utes in-state and in the Western region.
Jones played at Utah for two seasons (1992-94). He was a part of the 1992-93 team which won the Western Athletic Conference regular season title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He earned a degree in sociology from the U. in 1994.
Jones served as the Utes' video coordinator from 1994-97. He was a member of the staff for Ute teams that went to the NCAA second round in 1995, the Sweet 16 in '96 and the Elite Eight in '97. During that time, Utah had an 84-17 overall record and a 45-7 mark in WAC play, winning three regular-season championships. The Utes posted a 29-4 record in 1996-97, finishing the season ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and No. 6 in the coaches' poll. Jones helped develop All-Americans Keith Van Horn, Andre Miller and Michael Doleac.
Jones coached the Wurthing Bears in London, England from 1998-99. After working with former Utah assistant coach Tommy Connor at Champions Athletic Academy for three years, Jones then became Connor's assistant coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City for two years. In 2003-04, Westminster advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, was ranked 21st in the nation and won the Frontier Conference championship.
Jones, a Salt Lake City native was born on Dec. 30, 1971 and graduated from Judge Memorial High School in 1990. Jones and his wife, Emily, have a son, Rylan (7) and a daughter, Rendi (4).
