SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team will host `An Evening with John Farrell' at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014.
"It's exciting for our fans to have World Series champion manager John Farrell as the latest baseball great to continue the tradition of our opening banquet," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said."It's a fun way to kick off our year and we always look forward to a great evening."
In his first year as Boston's manager in 2013, he led the Red Sox to a World Series championship after turning around a team that had won just 69 games and finished last in the American League East the year before.
Farrell spent the previous two seasons as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays (2011-12), winning 154 games over two years. He served four years as the Red Sox pitching coach (2007-10), and during his tenure the staff held opponents to an American League-low .254 average and led the league in strikeouts (4,771). Farrell was a part of the 2007 World Series championship with Boston, and both Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester were named to the All-Star team in 2010.
The evening will feature a reception at 6:00 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $1,000 per table.
