World Baseball Classic: Qualifier Three
SALT LAKE CITY - Former Utah baseball player Kesley Kondo will play for Brazil in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier, hosted by Panama from Nov. 15-19.
Brazil is in qualifier three with Panama, Nicaragua and Columbia. Brazil opens the qualifier on Thursday, Nov. 15, against Panama, followed by a game on Saturday, Nov. 17, against a team to be determined.
The qualifying round is a modified double elimination format, with the winner of each of the four qualifying rounds moving on to the first round of the World Baseball Classic, which begins on March 2.
Kondo made 40 appearances over a two-year career at Utah from 2011-12. He had a 5.65 ERA and 68 strikeouts. Last season he was part of two shutouts, making two starts on the mound.
