SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team plays a key stretch of the Mountain West Conference campaign this weekend at Air Force. The Utes (16-24, 3-12 MWC) and Falcons (14-27, 3-9 MWC) currently hold the final two spots in the MWC standings and have three wins each, although Air Force has fewer games due to their series against TCU being cancelled because of weather. Only six of the seven teams in the conference move on to the MWC Tournament.
Utah has won its last two games and three of its last five, which included a win over No. 1-ranked UC Irvine. The Utes are coming off an 11-8 win over Utah Valley in their final Tuesday game of the season.
"This was an important win," head coach Bill Kinneberg said after the win to Utah Valley. "We have won two in a row and we need to be on a roll and keep it going into Air Force."
The Air Force Falcons are in the middle of a three-game losing streak, dropping two of three to UNLV over the weekend and falling to Northern Colorado, 20-14, on Tuesday. Air Force takes on Northern Colorado on Wednesday before playing the Utes. Air Force is capable of putting runs on the board, and have scored in double figures in 10 games this year. Notable wins include a 5-4, 11-inning victory at BYU on April 9.
