SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team kicks off one of the toughest portions of their schedule at Brigham Young in Provo on Thursday, April 16, in the first of a three-game series. The final two games of the series will take place in Salt Lake at Spring Mobile Ballpark (formerly Franklin Covey) on Friday and Saturday evening as the start of a seven game homestand.

Next week, the Utes face Washington State in a two-game series before seeing top-10 ranked UC Irvine for three games during the weekend. The Utes dropped a close three game series against New Mexico this past weekend, falling in extra innings in three games.

"We need to get back on track," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "This is probably the most challenging portion of our schedule. We have a string of very good ball clubs coming in and we are going to have to be at the top of our game this week."

Each of the six games that Utah and BYU play in baseball is worth 1.5 points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between the Utes and Cougars. Utah has already clinched a victory for the 2008-09 season with a 39.5-20 lead of the 65.5-point series.

BYU is coming off a pair of losses to No. 14 Oregon State, 7-6 and 8-4. The Cougars have lost five of their last seven.
