SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah baseball team will host Southern Utah University Wednesday afternoon at Ute Field. First pitch for the single game is slated for 1 p.m.

Utah enters the contest with an overall record of 13-18. The Utes took three of four from Utah Valley State last week. Utah has won nine of its last 12 outings. Southern Utah comes into the mid-week, non-conference game with an overall mark of 4-28. The Thunderbirds have lost 13 of their last 14 games.

Right-hander Andrew Wilding is slated to start for Utah, while righty Derek Job will be on the hill for SUU.

Utah and SUU played a three-game series in Cedar City back in early March. The Utes took two of those three contests. Wednesday's game is one of five scheduled between the Utes and Thunderbirds this season. The two teams will wrap up their season series April 24 at Ute Field.

Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said the Utes need to get use the game to continue to improve and help them prepare for conference foe San Diego State this weekend.

"It is another mid-week game that we need to get through and use to get better," Kinneberg said. "We need to keep our pitchers ready and fresh for the weekend, so we'll split the game up all the way through so we have a fresh bullpen for the weekend."

Utah and San Diego State begin their three-game set Friday night at Franklin Covey Field. Friday's first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
