COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior infielder Ryan Khoury and Air Force freshman right-hander Jake Petro have been named Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for both recipients.
Khoury, a West Jordan, Utah, product, led the Utes to a 3-1 record on the week, including taking two of three games from St. Mary's. He started the week with a 2-for-3, two RBI and two runs scored performance in the Utes' 6-4 win over New Mexico State. In game one vs. St. Mary's, Khoury went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in Utah's 14-7 win. He followed in game two with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double and two runs scored. Khoury concluded the week going 4-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored in Utah's 10-6 victory. His sixth inning RBI single tied the game at six apiece, while his two RBI double in the seventh gave the Utes their final margin of victory. On the week, Khoury went 11-for-18 (.611) from the plate, with one home run, four doubles, eight RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases with a slugging percentage of .867.
Petro, from San Antonio, Texas, recorded his second win of the year as he struck out a career-high five batters in a 3-0 victory over Southern Utah. He scattered three hits and did not allow a base runner past second base in his 6.0 innings of work (seven inning game). Petro retired the leadoff hitter in each inning pitched and did not allow a single walk.
