Utah Opens Season at New Mexico State This Weekend
The University of Utah baseball team opens its 2006 campaign with a trip to Las Cruces, N.M. for a three-game series with New Mexico State Friday-Sunday.

All three games, which will take place at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces, are slated to begin at 1 p.m. This weekend's series with New Mexico State begins a stretch of 17 consecutive road games to open the season for the Utes.

Utah was 19-36 overall in 2005. The Utes were fifth out of six teams in the MWC last season, with a 10-20 mark in league play.

Utah Balls & Strikes
• Utah leads the all-time series with New Mexico State by a tally of 9-4.

• The last meeting between the Utes and Aggies was in 1999. Utah swept a pair of doubleheaders from New Mexico State in Las Cruces. Three of those games were decided by two runs or less.

• The first meeting between Utah and the Aggies was in 1987.

• New Mexico State is the only Ute opponent from the Western Athletic Conference this season.

We're All Going Streaking
Six Utes had hitting streaks of 10 or more games last season. The four longest streaks from last season belong to Utah players returning in 2006.

Junior center fielder John Welsh had the longest streak of the season for the Utes last year. Welsh batted safely in 13 consecutive games. Joe Mozeleski had a 12-game streak in 2005. He has a nine-gamer carrying over from last season, the longest current streak on the squad.

Brossman also had a 12-game hitting streak in 2005, while Ryan Khoury batted safely in 11 consecutive games during one stretch last season.
