With the spring season coming up before we know it, UtahUtes.com will introduce you to the new players on the team in 'Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is junior Konnor Armijo, who is from Corona, Calif.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
Winning CIF senior year in 2010 with my best friend, Cory Hahn, since we were eight years old playing together. Also the game was a perfect game.
What is your favorite sport besides baseball?
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
Playing golf, hanging at the beach in Orange County, California.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
I don't have a nickname but there is a saying I was given - He's not your mijo, he's not my mijo, he's Armijo (our-mijo).
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I chose Utah because I felt more at home here walking around campus, taking with the coaches and being in the city. I love the weather and the whole change of scene from California.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
Biggest influence would be my dad. He showed me how to have a hard work ethic, and what it takes to get something you really want in life. He has taught me a lot of life lessons that no college class can cover.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
The gorgeous scenery. A lot different from Southern California. Downtown is a good place to hang out.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
Real personable coach. Tells you straight forward when you have a question for him. Although great advice on the field I've heard he has many life lessons that stay with you forever.
What are your goals for this year?
To be an impact player right away by earning a spot and helping the team get better any way possible. To take a couple of the freshmen under my wing and make the process of a long season easier.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
I am undeclared right now but it looks like it's going to be Emergency Medical Services with an emphasis in fire services.
