FORT WORTH, Texas - A late comeback lifted the Utah baseball team to a 15-11 victory over No. 15 TCU on Saturday evening.
Down 10-9 in the seventh inning, the Utes scored three runs to take a 12-10 lead. Nick Kuroczko, C.J. Cron and Devin Walker each had RBI hits for the Utes in the inning.
TCU's Bryan Holaday cut that lead to 12-11 in the bottom of the seventh with a home run before Utah scored three insurance runs in the top of the ninth off a three-run home run from Cron.
"It was a grind it out game," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "The wind was blowing out and nothing was safe. I am proud of the way our guys hung in there and continued to put up runs. They'd make a charge and we would answer. We swung the bats really well tonight - the top of our order provided a lot of runs for us."
Kuroczko and Walker also had three-run home runs during the game for the Utes. The trio drove in 14 of Utah's 15 runs in the game. Corey Shimada scored five runs.
The contest was back-and-fourth from the start. The Utes took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning with help from a three-run homer from Walker. TCU came back to score three runs in the bottom of the inning, including a two-run blast by Taylor Featherston.
Kuroczko gave Utah a 7-3 advantage with a three-run homer in the second inning and added two in the fourth inning after RBI singles from Walker and Austin Jones.
TCU tied the game at 9-9 with a five-run fourth before Featherston hit his second homer of the day to push TCU ahead, 10-9, before the Utes rallied for the win in the late innings.
Reliever Bryn Card entered in the sixth inning, pitching 1.2 innings with three strikeouts to pick up his fourth win of the year. Stephen Streich threw in the eighth and ninth for his second save of the year. Andrew Wilding got the start, pitching four innings with four strikeouts. Bennett Askew and Robert Chimpky also pitched.
