TEMPE, Ariz. - The Utah baseball team closed out its three-game series against Arizona State with a 4-2 loss to the 20th-ranked Sun Devils.
Each team scored a run in the first inning. Brooks singled to lead off the game and scored on Morin's double to right center field. Arizona State picked up a run after back-to-back singles from Joey DeMichele and Abe Ruiz.
ASU took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning after loading the bases with no outs and sending two runs home on a sacrifice fly and a ground out.
The Utes got a run back in the top of the third to put the score at 3-2 on an RBI single from Morin after Hunt singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a single by Tyler Relf.
The bats cooled off as the game continued. Utah stranded a pair of runners in the fifth inning and Watrous got double plays to help get out of the fourth and sixth innings. ASU added an insurance run in the eighth inning after loading the bases with the help of a triple, a hit batter and an intentional walk, a run scored with another walk before Wagner got out of the inning with a double play.
Arizona State was led by two hits from Ruiz. The Sun Devils used four pitchers, with Joseph Lopez earning the win after entering in relief. He pitched 2 2/3 innings.
