SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team never trailed in a 4-2 victory over Albertson College, an NAIA school in Caldwell, Idaho, in the first half of a doubleheader at Ute Field this afternoon.
Junior Shad McCord got the win on the mound, improving to 1-0 on the year. He threw 3.0 innings, giving up two hits, while striking out four and walking one. He was one of four pitchers for Utah in seven innings, including junior Clay Westmoreland, who earned his third save of the season.
Utah plated three in the bottom of the third on a two-out, three-run double to right field by junior Matt Ciaramella.
The Coyotes made it a 3-1 game in the top of the fourth with an RBI-double. The Utes answered in the bottom of the inning with one run on an Eric Chevalier triple to left center.
Albertson scored its final run on a base hit to right field in the top of the sixth, but that was as close as the Coyotes would get.
Chevalier led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Ciaramella was 1-for-3 with three driven in. Sophomore Ryan Khoury went 2-for-3 with one run as the only other Ute with a multi-hit game.
