Todd Delnoce, Utah's hitting instructor, was an assistant coach with the Utes from 1995-2001. He served as an assistant coach at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. from 2001-2003.
During his six seasons in his first stint at Utah, Delnoce helped the Utes set six school records at the plate. Utah won a Western Athletic Conference Northern Division Championship in 1997 with Delnoce on the coaching staff. His Ute hitters were ranked in the top 10 nationally in batting average, doubles, home runs, runs per game and slugging that season. Delnoce coached Utah record-holders Casey Child, Sam Swenson, Nate Weese, Scott Pratt and current Major Leaguer Chris Shelton. Most recently, he coached 2006 All-American shortstop Ryan Khoury. Last season, Khoury set the Utah record for hits in a career and also finished fifth in the nation in batting average, hitting .438.
The 2006 Ute offense was ranked in the top 25 nationally in batting average, doubles per game, home runs per game and slugging percentage. The 2006 Utah hitters also ranked 35th in the nation in scoring, averaging 7.4 runs per game.
Utah has finished the season with a team batting average of .300 or better in seven of the eight seasons Delnoce has been the Ute hitting instructor.
Delnoce serves as third-base coach and oversees the baserunners and outfielders. He also serves as Utah's camp coordinator, assists with recruiting, handles summer ball placement and is in charge of the maintenance at Ute Field.
Delnoce earned his bachelor's degree in social work from Arizona State University in 1994. He served as team captain for the Sun Devils in 1994. Delnoce was the starting second baseman for ASU in 1994. He played left field in 1993. Arizona State took part in the College World Series during both of those seasons. Delnoce also earned ASU's "Courageous Performance Award" in 1994, after coming back from a torn ACL.
Delnoce was the head coach of the Tempe Giants of the Arizona Summer Collegiate League in 1995. In the summer of 1996, he played professionally with the Bangor (Maine) Blue Ox.
Delnoce is a native of Santa Ana, Calif. He and his wife Staci reside in Sandy, Utah.
