WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - University of Utah cross country junior Amanda Mergaert has been named to the All-Pac-12 Conference Second Team, the league office announced on Wednesday. With the announcement, Mergaert becomes the first Utah cross country athlete to earn Pac-12 Conference honors.

"Amanda had a terrific season," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "It was undoubtedly one of the best ever in school history. To be honored as the first-ever All-Pac 12 athlete at the University of Utah is well deserved."

At the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 29 in Phoenix, Mergaert finished with a six-kilometer time of 20:21 to earn her 10th place overall. Mergaert's performance marked her second-best time of the year and was two seconds shy of the school record, which she set at the Chile Pepper Invitational earlier in the season.

Following the Pac-12 Championships, Mergaert went on to finish ninth at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Nov. 12 in Provo, which qualified her for the NCAA Championships. She became the first Utah cross country athlete to qualify for back-to-back NCAA Championships in over 15 years.

At the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Mergaert posted an 84th-place finish with a time of 20:53.6.
