SALT LAKE CITY- After taking two weeks off from competition, the Utah women’s cross country team returns to action on Saturday for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
The race will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course and will begin with the women’s six-kilometer blue race at 11:40 a.m. EDT.
“The past two weeks have been a great chance for us to get some training in,” Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. “Indiana State does a great job of hosting the meet, so it will be fun going back there.”
“We have worked on simulating a race environment during practice and focused on helping to close our gaps,” Kepler continued. “At practice we have been focusing on us and being as good as we can be. As we find out what teams will be in our race, we will turn our focus onto finding ways to move up the latter with at-large points and standings.”
Last season at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational, the Utes finished 14th in the team standings after tallying 489 points. The team was led by Amanda Mergaert’s 15th-place performance. Returning runners Susannah Hurst and Andrea Chavez also recording solid performances. Hurst set a personal-record six-kilometer time of 21:10.7 at the meet a year ago.
The LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course will also play host for the NCAA Championships in November.
