Sept. 27, 2005

This Week: The University of Utah cross country women head to Missoula, Mont., for the 6k Montana Invitational on Saturday, October 1. The meet will be held at the UM Golf Course, and starts at 10:45 a.m.

Meet Preview: Teams joining Utah in Missoula include Montana University, Washington State University, Weber State University, Eastern Washington University, and Montana State University.

Last Week: The Utes had last weekend off, but look to improve on Chelsea DiGrazia's sixth-place finish on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the three-mile Montana State University Invitational. The team finished fourth overall on 101 points.

Chelsea DiGrazia led the way again in finishing sixth with a time of 17:57. She also had a top-10 finish at the BYU Autumn Classic three weeks ago. Nicki Hugie and Ashlee Warnick ran well together, finishing 17th (18:26) and 19th (18:29), respectively. Kristin Taylor ran her best race of the year in finishing 23rd with a time of 18:54.

Rounding out the rest of the Utes are Lauren Endersen, finishing 36th (19:34), Kellie Anderson finishing 38th (19:42), and Janett Ern finishing 47th (20:31). A broken shoe cost Ern valuable time and points, as she had to stop to fix it in order to race.

Ute Notes: Chelsea DiGrazia has finished in the top ten for two consecutive weeks.

Quoting Head Coach Kyle Kepler: On Last Week- "We've had a couple of weeks off, and during that time we got some hard training in. We're looking forward to seeing how that training pays off.

On the Montana Invitational- There should be some very good competition at the University of Montana, and we're excited for that challenge. We're also looking forward to running against Montana State again, who beat us at their home meet two weeks ago. We want to see how much closer we can get to them and see if we've raised the bar a little bit.

"This is our first chance to run at the conference championships distance of 6,000 meters, and that's another new challenge for us.

"We're looking forward to a great weekend, we're going to run our hearts out and figure out where that puts us. As always, we are looking for improvement as we have each week, and hopefully that cumulative effect will be big at the conference meet at the end of the month."
