Utah freshman Kurt Michels was selected as the Mountain West Conference's Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week. Michels, a Kalispell, Mont., native and former Montana Cross Country State Champion, led the men's team at the Montana State Invitational last week with a sixth-place finish (25:17.52) in the five-mile race.
Michels has made big strides in his debut season as a Ute, and Head Coach Brian Appell expects even more success from the newcomer as the season progresses.
