SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah cross country teams finished the Utah Inaugural on Saturday, Oct. 18. The meet took place at Rose Park Golf Course in Salt Lake City and featured athletes from Utah, Weber State, BYU, Westminster, Utah Valley State College, and Utah State. It marked the first time Utah has hosted a cross country meet in eight years.
Several unattached runners competed in the race; the following are where Utah's athletes finished out of collegiate runners.
The women ran a distance just under 5K with Elise Greenwood finishing as the first collegiate racer on her 21st birthday. Jennifer Brusch was next at fourth, followed by Nellie Hammons at sixth, Andrea Davidson at eighth and Jennie Haertel at 10th.
"The strategy was to go out hard and maintain a steady pace," states Greenwood. "I did what I was supposed to do so the race went really well."
"The meet went well from a management position," states Head Coach Brian Appell. "The teams did ok. Some girls went out too fast and paid for it. These are things you work on to prepare for the conference championships."
