Provo, Utah -- The University of Utah Cross Country team placed fourth of six teams with a score of 97 points at the BYU Autumn Classic on Saturday. The Utes were once again led by freshman Lauren Lewis who placed 14th in the 5k race with a time of 18:28.6.

Also scoring for the Utes were Rebecca Mackelprang (20th, 18.50.6), Stephanie Skoreyko (28th, 19:14.2), Janett Ern (29th, 19:15.1), and Kellie Anderson (31st, 19:20.9). Lauren Endersen (19:39.9) and Alexis Davis (20:14.6) also ran for the Utes, finishing 35th and 42nd, respectively.

The Utes continue to improve as the top-five runners reduced the spread from 58 seconds at the USU Open last week to 52 seconds this week at the BYU Autumn Classic; head coach Kyle Kepler was baffled at this statistic.

Baylor University won the event with 21 points with a first-place effort by Nichole Jones (17:47.1). Brigham Young University placed second (39 points), followed by Utah Valley University (90), Utah (97), Westminster College (162) and Dixie State College (173).

"We ran a great race and still continue to improve," says Coach Kepler. "We didn't get off to the start I had hoped, but were able to make up for the lost time in the middle of the race.

Kepler ends with, "We hope to continue to decrease the time between our top-five runners and are looking forward to next week."
