Mackelprang leads Utes at BYU Autumn Classic Freshman records top-10 finish.

PROVO, Utah - Rebecca Mackelprang led the University of Utah cross country team this afternoon as it took fifth at the BYU Autumn Classic here this afternoon.

Mackelprang was sixth in the 5k event, clocking the course in 19:00. She paced the Utes who scored 123 points.

"I was proud of how our freshmenn, Becky Mackelprang and Alyssa Abbott this afternoon," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "Becky placed in the top 10 in very big race for us I'm glad to see that Alyssa continues to improve from race to race.

"Overall, I thought we could've had a better showing. There definitely were some individual highlights this afternoon but I also saw areas that we need to improve upon."

While Mackelprang chalked up a top-10 finish, Abbott trailed her teammate in placing 26th (20:14). Also scoring for the Utes was Lauren Enderson (28th, 20:20.8), Kellie Anderson (30th, 20:36) and Janett Ern (33rd, 21:00).

Fellow Moutnain West Conference rival Colorado State won the meet in tallying 29 points. BYU was second (45) while UVSC (76), Idaho State (93), Utah and Westminster (180).

Winning the individual title was Kassie Anderson from BYU. She paced the pack with a time of 17:54.3.

The Utes return to action when they run at Montana State at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16. The three-mile race is set to begin at 9:40 p.m.
