NEW ORLEANS - Alyssa Abbott, Rosalie Griffin, Destanae Howerton-Davis, Susannah Hurst, Stephanie Jolley, Angela Kaplar and Kaitlin Urmston of the University of Utah track & field team were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, the organization announced Wednesday.
"This group exemplifies what being a student-athlete is all about," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "This is a well-deserved honor. We are proud of them and appreciate the effort they put forth to achieve at such a high level."
Abbott and Kaplar were honored for the second straight year.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

The Utah cross country team begins training for the 2012 season on Aug. 14 and its first competition will be Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Utah State Open.
