THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah outdoor track and field team will head to Ogden, Utah, for a pre-conference warm up. Hosted by Weber State, competition for the meet will be on Wednesday, May 7. Field events will kick off at 4:30 p.m. and running events at 5:45 p.m.
LAST MEET:
The Utah women wrapped up second place with a 139 point total at the BYU Invitational last weekend in Provo, Utah. Brooke LoBue and Vanessa Mortensen grabbed first-place finishes. LoBue broke her own school record in the pole vault with a 3.97-meter mark. Mortensen's throw of the hammer was 55.71 meters. Some Utes were also in action at the Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Nellie Hammons garnered 13th place in the 800 meters with a 2:07.91 run. Hammons now ranks sixth in the NCAA Western Region. She also broke her previous school record in the 800 with the performance.
On the men's side at Palo Alto, Calif., Colby Frazier set a new personal record in the 1,500 meters with 3:47.56. Torin Koos had a pr in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.60.
UTES ON THE MOVE:
Nellie Hammons improved her school record in the 800 meters at the Cardinal Invitational. Her time of 2:07.91 moves the South Weber, Utah, native up to first in the conference. She has already qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 800 meters and ranks sixth in the NCAA Western Region. At the BYU Invitational, Hammons finished third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:31.27. Her 1,500-meter time ranks third in the conference.
NEXT ACTION:
The Utes will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2003 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which kick off on Wednesday, May 14. Competition for the Championships will continue through Saturday, May 17.
